Microsoft Surface & The iPhone

Microsoft Surface
Microsoft announced last week a revolutionary “new” interface for computing. I really wanted to comment on it last week, but with a very shortened week, did not find the time to do so. A friend posted a link on his site, reminding me to comment… so, thanks Steve. πŸ™‚

This really looks phenomenal. It’s a real interface. No mouse… no keyboard. You just use your hands. You can even have multiple touch points. It’s fantastic.

And looks A LOT like the iPhone.

When the iPhone was announced (and demoed) in January, Steve Jobs said they had filed LOTS (he said a number, but I forget what it was) of patents for this phone, and that they would be enforcing them vigorously. And after seeing the Surface demo online last week… I can see now why he said that. πŸ™‚

Microsoft claims they have been working on this project for five years. I believe Apple claimed a similar time frame for the iPhone. It will be quite interesting to see what happens here… πŸ™‚

So, if you’d like to check it out… it really does look fantastic. (Link below…) I love the way you can set stuff on top of it and it automatically recognizes it as a device to read or save to! Fantastic.

Apple iPhone Ads - June 29th
In related news… Apple announced today that iPhone will be released to the public on June 29th. They also released some ads. Neat stuff.

Technology is pretty cool!

But of course… Apple’s is just a tad better. (And Microsoft is a LOT better at copying it…) πŸ˜‰

The Mormons – PBS

PBS: The MormonsLiving in Palmyra perhaps makes things with the words Mormon, or Latter-Day Saints, or Joseph Smith stand out at a quick glance. I caught an article today on a recent PBS series (that I was unaware of) called The Mormons. I found out that they have posted the entire video online, so I watched bits of it throughout the day. It’s a fascinating historical look at Joseph Smith and the LDS church. If you’re interested in such a thing… here are the links:

Another Personality Test?

Following a link my parents sent in an email to a site I had heard of before, but did not previously sign up for… I created an account at StumbleUpon.com and took their personality test. Gotta love those personality tests…

ENFP – “Journalist”. Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. 8.1% of total population.

Free Jung Personality Test (similar to Myers-Briggs/MBTI)

Well, I just thought it was interesting that they chose “journalist” to describe my personality, as that is what I thought I wanted to be these many years ago. And in some sense, is what I am doing a bit today.

Anyway… besides the test, StumbleUpon is neat as it sends you to websites you might not have otherwise found based on preferences/interests you put in. Pretty neat so far. I heard about it on a tech podcast and thought it was a cool idea. Been playing with it a bit here today… I’ve like most of the results so far.

Thanks for the link, Dad. πŸ™‚

Search Terms

Every once in a while, I check the stats page for my blog here… and usually find some interesting things. I found an old friend, and a few more links to other friends’ websites. I see which pages (besides the main page) are viewed most (#1, #2, #3…)

But perhaps the most comical (and sometimes informative?) thing has to be the search terms people use to find my site. The list below is the top search phrases people usedthis month, and then clicked over to my site. Yes… the NUMBER ONE SEARCH PHRASE that brought people from Google (or wherever) to my site was… George McFly. πŸ™‚ Haha. Here’s the list…

  1. george mcfly
  2. greg campbell
  3. greg head
  4. scary jesus
  5. poo song
  6. amy carder life blog
  7. jamie feick married
  8. greg campbell animal rights
  9. gregory breeze
  10. the bible is weird

There were a few others in the complete list… several dealing with this website that caused quite a stir not too long ago. And a long-lost friend of my cousin, Kara, also found HER through my website… with a search for her name. Pretty neato.

Anyway… I thought #1 and #8 were funny enough to publish here. The internet is a pretty amusing thing at times. πŸ™‚

Mr. Deity

Mr. Deity
I found this show as a recommended video podcast on iTunes, and thought the description was interesting enough to check out. (And it wasn’t labeled “Explicit”, which you have to watch for on iTunes video podcasts…) I downloaded one show, and then decided to get them all! They’re short little sketches taking a pretty funny (often incorrect, but humorous) look at God and the things he does. πŸ™‚ The cast is Mr. Deity, Jesus, Larry (I think he’s playing the role of Holy Spirit…) and Lucy. (Lucifer is a woman.) If you’re offended by such things, don’t watch. But if you’re not, we think it’s pretty funny.

(I thought the Super Bowl press conference one was pretty funny…) πŸ™‚

What I’ve Been Working On

Here are a few sites I have been working on lately. Some are new, some are just updates, and some are my own endeavors.

Well.. and this one. πŸ™‚

Various Things

  • Kirsten joined us for reading the Bible today (usually it’s just Dad & the boys…) and in today’s story, Jesus was going to have dinner with one of the Pharisee’s named Simon. Well, we had just been talking about how we’d like to go to Wendy’s for dinner, so I said, “Maybe they went to Wendy’s!” The kids all thought that was cool, but the next line said, “So they went to his house for dinner.” I said, “Oh, I guess not Wendy’s. They went to his house. So, they probably had Skyline.” Kirstie replied, “Like us!!!” πŸ™‚ (Which, though I’m 100% certain they did not have Skyline, got across the point that they were peoples just like us.) πŸ™‚
  • Jen wants to make resurrection rolls. That’s awesome. πŸ™‚
  • The Buffalo Bills schedule comes out today (along with the rest of the NFL). It will be announced at 4pm on the NFL Network (which we DO NOT get!!!) and around the same time on the Buffalo Bills website.
  • The Buffalo Sabres have three games to go, and are 1 point behind the Detroit Red Wings for the best overall record in the NHL. Detroit only has 2 games left, so the Sabres are definitely in the driver’s seat. And with games against Boston, Washington, and Philadelphia, they stand a very good chance of winning all of those. Tonight’s game is against Boston, whome the Sabres have a 5-0-2 record against this season! Go Sabres! We could have home ice through the whole playoffs!
  • My wife loves to give gifts. Today I opened my drawers to get my clothes for the day and found an Almond Joy (one of my favorites) on top of my shirts and some travel cups for hot drinks that I enjoy on top of my socks. A fun surprise to begin the day.
  • Mac sales of late have been going at a pretty good clip. At least interest has increased. I am getting calls/emails from folks I don’t even know πŸ™‚ Pretty fun. I love hooking people up with Macs! And the bonus is, now I also get paid by Apple to do it! It’s not a lot, but it’s definitely a nice bonus! Lemme know if you need one… πŸ™‚
  • We are Bills season ticket holders once again! It’s a pretty expensive endeavor for us to go to Bills games (tack on another $50 to even $100 on game day for gas, tolls, parking, food, etc.) so a friend reminded us of the wonder of StubHub. It’s a site where you can buy (and sell!) tickets of all sorts. He’s pretty sure we can cover the cost of our tickets to a game or two we want to go to, by selling the games we don’t want to (or, can’t as it were) go to. SO… we have four seats in the Family section, 225 I believe. See ya there! πŸ™‚ (Guess we’ll find out today WHEN we’ll be going to these games!!!)
  • Jen also surprised me by getting a baby sitter and “taking me” to El Pacifico for dinner last night. It’s our new favorite place. She and I can eat for $15-20 and it’s AWESOME, authentic, Mexican food. Great stuff!

The "Word Of God"?

The last two podcasts from The God Journey have been on the topic of Scripture. Good stuff. A few moments that might have challenged me before, but I have been thinking about what the “Word of God” is recently as well. We read through John not too long ago, and everytime you read that phrase there it’s referring to Jesus. A person. The “living & active” Word of God. (Ref: Heb)

I went to Bible college. I learned to revere the Book as many Christians do. But I think I have come to see that the Bible is a very special book that helps us to know God’s heart for us – but we can easily be tricked into worshipping IT. (Rather than the God from whom it comes.)

Good line from one of the podcasts (the second one) was when a friend of one of the hosts was asked, “Do you believe in the inerrancy of Scripture” his reply was, “I believe in the infallibility of the God who gave it to us.” πŸ™‚ That was good.

I do not believe in the super-holy-magicness of the book that I hold in my hand. I do not believe in the “power of prayer”. My hope, my trust, my life is in the One whom I know through those things. God is not limited to the pages of my Bible (nor are the pages actually limited to the type that is on them, which is equally cool!) He IS the Word. (Well, Jesus is, anyway) and that is way cooler than a book πŸ™‚

(Don’t worry… I still think the Bible is the super coolest book… I just think that sometimes we give it more credit that God intended it to have.) πŸ™‚

I’ll take him any day.

An Article on Jesus Christ / Joseph Smith

Not sure how many of the readers of this blog also read my Newsvine column (it is linked to the right over there at the top of the page…) so I thought I might link to an article I posted there today re: the DVD Jesus Christ / Joseph Smith.

I also included links to coverage by the local Utah media as well. Fascinating. πŸ™‚

If you’re interested, read the article here.
