Freedom of Choice

Posted on September 23rd, 2005 :: 8:10 am by Greg

We have been watching Star Trek again. This time we’re going through season two of the latest series, called “Enterprise”. It’s great. We’re big fans. We love the characters, and the stories, and the whole science fiction, space theme. Neato. But the worldview often leaves something to be desired. The world they have created is…

A World Without God

Posted on September 23rd, 2005 :: 8:10 am by Greg

I mentioned in the previous post that Star Trek creates a universe that is not the creation of a wise and divine Creator, but one that evolved and continues to do so. They come across species all the time who are at a higher state of evolution than humans. 🙂 (Sorry, that one makes me…

Kids = Time

Posted on September 21st, 2005 :: 2:44 pm by Greg

As I attempted to decipher why I do not have time to blog or even more, it seems, to read these days… I remembered that I have kids. Kids = Time. Can I get an AMEN? 🙂

Football

Posted on September 18th, 2005 :: 3:31 pm by Greg

Sometimes, when I watch football… I wish I could still get out there and play. Perhaps I should join one of those semi-pro teams, where you have to pay to play. Perhaps not. But it would be fun. 🙂 Bills didn’t do so well today. Check out the review on Tuesday morning.

Funny Story

Posted on September 17th, 2005 :: 9:05 am by Greg

I love my Grandma. She’s quite a character. I was just talking with a friend this morning about names, and I thought I should share my Grandma’s name story here, just for posterity. My Grandma was born Theba LaVida Stevens. She grew up being Theba. I am not certain how much she disliked the name…

Failure

Posted on September 16th, 2005 :: 1:10 pm by Greg

My brother-in-law was reading a book one time, and asked a circle of us to tell him what our greatest fear was. So, we all told him, and one by one he proclaimed with certainty what our fear was. “You have a fear of abandonment.” “You have a fear of the unknown.” “You have a…

End Poverty by 2015

Posted on September 14th, 2005 :: 9:40 am by Greg

I am a big Star Trek fan. My wife and I try and watch a Star Trek each day. An ambitious goal, but on a good week we can keep close to that. So we are quite familiar with the doctrine of one Earth, one humanity that has eliminated war and commerce and of course,…

Slowing Down

Posted on September 13th, 2005 :: 10:03 am by Greg

Sorry for the absence from the blog here. That does happen from time to time, though I do not wish it to be so. I did predict this current lull, however, as we were entering the last few weeks of summer. We had a great trip to Ohio. A nice concert, a good visit with…

Parenting

Posted on September 9th, 2005 :: 1:46 am by Greg

In the course of many converging events this week, my mind has been directed to the many facets of life as a parent. On the one hand, there are the joys of your children’s successes – doing what they are supposed to, and even surprising you by doing the unexpected. Then there are the pull-out-your-hair…

Katrina

Posted on August 29th, 2005 :: 12:34 am by Greg

After watching a bit of the hurricane coverage tonight (which definitely overdoes the sensational aspect of the story…) I have just been wondering something. At what point do you consider moving somewhere else? Read this report from The Drudge Report detailing the potential threat of the storm: Urgent Weather Message from NWS New Orleans WWUS74…
