Go Bills!

I just noticed that it’s been three days since my last post! (Not really, but by the calendar days here, it looks like that!) That’s crazy! Didn’t really take a vacation, just been writing elsewhere. It’s Buffalo Bills season! So, in addition to my article following Friday night’s game, I’ve been spending a little time chatting with fellow Bills fans on the Buffalo Bills forums. (As well as some other forums – here, and here.)

Tomorrow night (um… tonight, if you’re going by the date posted…) we’ll be heading up to St John Fisher College with the boys to go to the Bills’ night practice! Never been to one of those. I hear they are a blast. Some more “real” action than the daytime practices. A bit more for the fans.

Then Friday night we’ll see our first live action of the season. We’ll be in attendance (with our boys again!) at Ralph Wilson Stadium for the Bills/Falcons game! It’s just pre-season… so, definitely not the same as regular season. But you try telling that to our five and eight year old boys. πŸ˜‰ I’m sure they’ll be having “regular season” fun!

Never been a better time to subscribe to our Buffalo Bills Show! New hosts, more articles, even new t-shirts (info coming soon). You can use the regular old RSS feed, or subscribe at iTunes!

Go Bills!

SuperCaliFragiGenerous

A couple weeks ago, we were arranging to spend a kidless evening with some friends of ours, and they ended up offering to take us out for a special dinner. They know that’s rare for us, and wanted to treat us to that. That was super generous. We had it planned for a while, so we had time to really look forward to it.

Well, as the day approached, they also learned that we are in a really tough spot financially. Business has been slower than ever, and we’re trying to figure out what to do with all of the bills that remain at a steady pace, despite the decreased pace of our income. They offered to just have us over for dinner, and make a donation to our overdue bills fund! That was super-duper generous! But I figured, the night out with them would be special for Jen (and hopefully them, too!) and whatever they might be able to give us wouldn’t cover the bills we owe anyway… so… we stuck to our original plan.

Well lemme tell you… it was a fun night!

We went to the Outback Steakhouse, and we got… you guessed it… STEAK! Lots of it! It was a fantastic meal! Great time with our friends. Super fun. But we weren’t done!! They treated us to dessert at Champps, a sports bar/restaurant that has an ENORMOUS ice cream cake/pie dessert. The Mile High Ice Cream Pie, or something like that. So we finished off that tower of frozen greatness (well, mostly I did…) and that was all just fantastic. We love hanging out with these friends, and they were just being super-dee-duper generous… it was so crazy and cool.

THEN…

They topped off the night by saying they would still like to help us out with some money! Seriously. That was SuperCaliFragiGenerous!! I mean… not only did they treat us to one of the biggest eating-out feasts we have ever had (maybe THE biggest!), but then they gave us a check!?? They don’t have a ton of money either… they are also paying down debt. Amazing.

It was so cool, I made up the word SuperCaliFragiGenerous for it. πŸ™‚ (Well, mostly made up…)

So thanks to you, generous friends. Your kindness and generosity made for a super fun memory, and will certainly help us in paying our bills. Muchas gracias!

If I Had A Million Dollars… (Or, at least $65K)

The Beautiful New iMacs
When I was looking at the configurations available of the new iMacs at the Apple Store online, I think I got a little carried away. I wanted to research what options were available to people, and well… I got to dreaming.

“What if money were no issue… what would my (current) ideal Apple order look like…..”

Well, I told a friend I could easily drop $100K at the Apple store, but it turns out I was wrong. Here’s most of the list of what I would get for our family if spending limits were set free:

  • 1 Octo-Core MacPro for me (3TB of interal storage, 16GB RAM, loaded…)
  • 2 30″ Apple Displays to go with that MacPro
  • 2 24″ iMacs (one for me, one for Jen)… mine would have the 2.8Ghz Core 2 Extreme processor, both with 1TB of interal storage, 4GB RAM
  • 1 15″ MacBook Pro, loaded, for my portable needs…
  • 1 White MacBook for Jen, again, loaded. Larger hard drive, since she has lots of photos.
  • 4 20″ iMacs for the kids, standard configuration on those…
  • 7 external speakers from Bose (for each computer)
  • 9 AppleCare Extended Warranties (gotta protect your intestment!) πŸ™‚
  • 3 AppleTVs (one for each floor, of course…)
  • 1 80GB iPod (we’d give our other one to the kids)
  • 3 Bose SoundDock Digital Music Systems (again, one for each floor…)
  • A 10TB XServe (Apple RAID server) with all the software and Service/Warranty (this is a hefty sum!!!)
  • A few more fun peripherals…

And all of that added up to just over $63,000! Not bad!!!

πŸ™‚

And don’t forget, we could sell all of our current equipment and put that towards the $63K… so, that would make it a bit cheaper.

πŸ™‚

Of course, in our current financial state, this will never happen. But hey, you never know… If I had a million dollars… πŸ˜‰

I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means…

One more quick post…

I’ve been doing laundry tonight, in between blog posts (and reading other blogs/sites). Our dryer has three settings for the automatic drying cycles. There is Less Dry, More Dry, and Optimum Dry. Now, unless I am not remembering the correct definition for the word “optimum“… when would you ever not choose “Optimum Dry”?

Weekend Visit

I am tired and sunburned, but it was a really good weekend! πŸ™‚

It began Thursday night, actually. My parents got into town (a bit later than they would have liked) and we went out for some ice cream at Chill & Grill. Nice! Actually, they ended up staying at our house and just chatting till after 11pm, which is very odd for my Dad at least… πŸ™‚ That was a nice start to a fun visit.

On Friday we spent the day with them at their KOA campground site. They brought their big Arctic Fox trailer up and we hung out in that, but mostly outside. Yes, you read that right… OUTSIDE. If you know me, and perhaps know what our weather was like on Friday (mid 90s, and overpoweringly humid) then you know that is very out of the ordinary…

But, we weren’t going to let a little heat stop us! πŸ˜‰

We played miniature golf… a LOT! We swam in the in ground pool… A LOT! We had pizza, Esther Price chocolate, swam, walked, completed and obstacle course, played on a playground, played football, swam, and played some more miniature golf! By the time we had done all that, it was time for a nice dinner at the Wegman’s Market Cafe. Then off to Sharks Custard & Candy for some great homemade ice cream to top off the evening! QUITE a day. Seriously beat at the end of that one!!!

Then on Saturday we moved the party to Palmyra, where Grandpa Tom could work on a few projects around our house. While he put up a gutter outside our back door, and leveled our stove, and scoped out a few future projects, Grammy helped do some deep cleaning in the kitchen, and I made some fantastic home-cooked meals. (Skyline for us, a nice vegetable-rich tomato sauce for Grammy & Grandpa, and a fresh Zucchini medley for lunch, then STEAKS on the grill and homemade mashed potatoes for dinner!) We played LifeStories during nap time, and then headed back to Chill & Grill to finish off the evening with some ice cream!! We were stuffed, to be sure!

Overall it was a full, but somehow relaxing and quite enjoyable visit. Thanks for coming up Mom & Dad! Always fun, and somehow particularly so this time!

To finish off the weekend, we spent most of today (it seemed!) over at our friends’ new home, celebrating their 10-year-old’s birthday! Lots of friends, old and some new… great foot, played some football, and just spent time chatting with friends. We also sang some of our stuff for about 45 minutes as well. It was a nice finish to the weekend. (Oh, we did take a dip in our neighbor’s pool after the party… then put the kids in bed a tad early after such a full weekend!!!)

As you can tell from the time of this post, I had some catching up to do on my blog, and on my Buffalo Bills site… as well as a pretty hefty amount of laundry and some dishes to do! That was the finish to my weekend!

If you have read all of tonight’s posts… you deserve a medal or something. Leave a comment to that effect and I’ll work on something…

For now… time to sleep!

It’s Tea Time Again

My new brown teapot!
When my Mom (who is not an avid reader of GregsHead.net…) heard the story of my recent teapot neglect, she asked if I had gotten a new teapot. I had scoped out the options at Wal-Mart, but they were either more pricey than I had anticipated, or too cheap. So, as of yet, I had not. That was the answer she was looking for. πŸ™‚

Surprisingly enough… she actually had an extra teapot. Yes, if you know my Mom… that is really not a surprise. πŸ™‚ She really has an “extra” everything I think. It’s quite fascinating. And quite cool for me!

So now, the teapot you see above is sitting on my stove, and has made my first cup of Earl Grey (sipping as I type now, actually)…

Jen’s favorite part? It’s brown. For some reason, Brown is the new favorite around here.

So, all are happy that a new teapot has come to our home!

Dolled-Up Food

Strawberries with Chocolate and Whipped Cream
It really just started out as an attempt to get a nice healthy snack around midnight. I had some carrots, with a nice dill dip I made. Then tried some potato chips in that dip, too. (OK, that wasn’t healthy…) Then I just really wanted something sweet…

Fruit! We have grapes! So, I got some of those, then noticed the strawberries. Mmmmm… strawberries. So, I got out the container, and decided to cut some up.

Here’s where it got interesting. πŸ˜‰

So, since I was already preparing the snack (instead of just eating it) I decided to spruce it up a bit. I got out a little plate for my beheaded strawberries. Then I remembered the hot fudge in the fridge!!! So I got out a little bowl, and popped the jar of fudge in the microwave. Less than a minute later, I had some warm, flowing fudge!

After pouring the hot fudge in the little bowl, it still needed something more. Oh yeah!!! I remembered that whipped cream in the fridge!!!!

So, after I whipped up the Cool Whip and put a nice little dollop on top of the hot fudge, I realized that I had made quite a little creation here. πŸ™‚ I do love to make my food look good!

Not the best photo, but wanted to share what I saw before I devoured it. They were tasty!!!

Ice Cream Update – Final Edition

Ice Cream MonthIf you can believe it… July has come to an end! It has been quite a run of ice cream consumption for me! Much of it has been enjoyed with my family, and many friends. Here’s the final rundown of the places when and where said treats were consumed…

  • 7/22 – I am pretty certain that we ate at Chill & Grill with friends on this day…
  • 7/23 – I may have gotten more Chill & Grill this day. And, continued to enjoy the ice cream in our freezer!
  • 7/24 – Probably just ice cream from the freezer this day…
  • 7/25 – Bought up several containers of Edy’s Grand Ice Cream, including one of my favorites, Cherry Chocolate Chip!
  • 7/26 – Got some ice cream from Chill & Grill again, and this time free of charge! Thanks, Jeff!
  • 7/27 – We ate some Abbott’s Frozen Custard at Bill Gray’s in Henrietta, NY this day. With the Drakes!
  • 7/28 – Got some more Chill & Grill with LOTS of friends on Saturday night!
  • 7/29 – Chill & Grill in the afternoon with some new friends, and then plenty of Edy’s from the freezer!!
  • 7/30 – Finished off the Cherry Chocolate Chip ice cream… several helpings of ice cream on this day! (Month is almost over!!!)
  • 7/31 – Had ice cream with the Shimps at Dari-an in Farmington, NY. Got banana ice cream on a cone. A perfect ending to a perfect 31 days of ice cream!

Believe it or not, I am not in the least bit sick of ice cream. This was not a hard thing for me to do! In fact, I’m looking forward to our next visit to Chill & Grill, or the grocery for some good ice cream. I am hoping we are one of the eleven luck folks who will win some free ice cream from Turkey Hill!!! One person gets a year’s supply… ten people get a month’s supply! Fantastic!

Of course, I will let you know here at GH if we are selected as one of the winners! πŸ™‚

Thanks for following along on my ice cream journey this month! I’m sure it’s the beginning of a long-standing tradition! πŸ™‚
