Enough of That

So, today we read a little further in Luke (which is just a little later the same night that Jesus said “Enough sword talk!“) and would you believe that Jesus said it again? One of the disciples pulls out a sword when the mob comes to arrest Jesus (which, makes sense from what Jesus had just told them a little bit ago…) and he cuts off the ear of one of the dudes. That prompts and “Enough of that!” from Jesus, and it prompted this little dittie that I sang for the boys after we noticed a theme in what Jesus was saying…

Enjoy πŸ™‚

Enough of That
Jesus said, “Get your sword”
Sell some stuff, if you must
The disciples said, “We’ve got two!”
But he said “Enough of that,
Yeah, Enought of that!”

What did he mean?
Oh what did he mean?
Enough of that

Late that night they came to get him
His disciples, well, they were listening
Drew their swords, chopped off an ear
He said enough of that
Yeah enough of that

What did he mean?
Oh what did he mean?
Enough of that
Enough of that

What do we learn from this little story?
Jesus does not like swords
Maybe he shouldn’t have used that example
He should have said buy a dog
Or a donkey

Enough of that
Enough of that
What did he mean?
Oh what did he mean?
Enough of that
Enough of that

The Streak Has Ended

As you may recall, I spent every day of national ice cream month (July) eating ice cream! Well, that carried over to August… and even into September! But, with a busy day at the Bills game yesterday, and no ice cream in the fridge last night… the streak ended at 70 days. I fully expect to begin another one sometime soon. But for now, the streak has ended. Just thought I should let you know. πŸ™‚

Growing Up "Right"

The Price is RightI was downstairs for a bit this morning (baking some chocolate chip cookies, actually…) and overheard Jen and the kids in the living room. They were watching the Price is Right, and I could hear things like, “That’s $92!?? No way!!” and, “Yes!!! Michael got $1.00!!!! Now [the next person] needs to get $1.00 too!”

First of all, it’s cool that my kids cheer for other people. That’s a life lesson that will serve them well if they carry it beyond gameshows. But, the other cool part?

I now can be certain that my kids are growing up right. They get quite regular doses of The Price Is Right!! You’re not a true American kid if you don’t know how to play Plink-O or the Shell Game or that cool one where the mountain climber climbs up, and if you got the wrong prices, falls off the top of the mountain.

Glad to know my kids are growing up Right. πŸ™‚

Great Words!

I have noticed lately that I use a lot of words that are not really words. Including quite often on this blog! I noticed that a commercial I saw also used one of these psuedo english words. They are words formed from the incorrect pronunciation of two or more words. I figured it might be fun to compile a list of the ones I like the best, and use most frequently. Feel free to add to the list in the comments πŸ™‚

  • gonna (going to)
  • lemme (let me)
  • musta (must have)
  • wanna (want to)
  • imunna (I’m going to)

I’ll add some more as I remember them… πŸ™‚

Blueberry Hill

Isn’t there a song about blueberry hill? I know it was the name of the hill behind the main part of Mountainview Christian Camp where I have spent several weeks of several summers of my life. But tonight, though there weren’t really any noticeable hills… I’d say we visited THE blueberry hill!

We’re in Clarence at the moment, visiting with Jen’s mom & dad. The kids love visits to Grandma & Grandpa’s and this time, Mom & Dad stayed too! πŸ™‚ We went to the Bills game last night – it was a blast, read about it here – and then today we played football, visited with some friends, saw another friend off on a trip to Africa, played more football, and then took a trip down to East Otto, NY to Burdick’s Blueberries.

The experience begins by heading as far into the middle of nowhere as you possibly can. Then, once you’re there, you “check in” by weighing your blueberry containers before they are filled… whereupon you are whisked away in a giant blue pickup truck (further into the middle of nowhere) to your row of blueberry bushes. The help walk you to a specific spot and tell you to begin picking here and go that direction, making sure to strip off all the ripe berries.

(Blueberry picking is serious business!) πŸ™‚

We had a blast! Picked (and ATE!) blueberries for about an hour I’d say! When we got there, one branch of one of our assigned bushes had bent to the ground – perfect for Julia!!! And our little Julia LOVES fruit!!! So, she stood there and picked and ate blueberries – at least 2 or 3 dozen – for the first 20 minutes or so while we picked elsewhere. Too cute!

After the big blueberry fest was over, we rode the blue pickup back to the home base and weighed in. We had almost 20 POUNDS of blueberries!!! Ha! That’s a LOT of blueberries!!! They taste great, and we’re going to be having lots of great blueberry-related foods for a while. I guess they freeze pretty well, too.

So, after we left the super fun blueberry place, we shared a meal at Ponderosa together. That used to be a more frequent outing for the Walker clan, but I think size and grandkids growing up have been factors in making it a much more rare – and special – occasion. We had a very nice meal (still full now!) and then came back home.

Tomorrow we spend the day at the fair. Jen’s dad is preaching there in the morning, and we’re hoping to get some fun in either before it rains, or in between the rain drops. Wish us luck. (It’s looking pretty rainy…)

Much more to come here at GregsHead.net. I’m wishing I had wireless internet… πŸ™‚ BUT, I am typing this blog from my in-laws’ computer (a Windows computer) using Safari! It looks amazing! It’s almost… almost close to what I would see on my Mac! Now that’s impressive!!

Until after the crazy weekend…

T-Shirt Wish List

Can't Sleep, Must PodcastI found this shirt a very long time ago (I think through PodcastAlley.com, a podcast directory where my shows are listed) and wanted to get it then… still want to get it now, but not wanting to drop $18 on a t-shirt (plus shipping) πŸ™‚

It does fit, however. (As I post this, I am editing my show, working on my site, and planning to be up for a couple more hours as I do so…)

Speaking of t-shirts I’ve always wanted to have… I saw this awesome endorsement for Sunday morning attendance before last year’s tourism season here in Palmyra. (I think this is even better than Hebrews 10:25!) πŸ™‚
