Buffalo Bills Review

Hey there Bills fans. πŸ™‚ Just wanted to alert you to a new venture we have begun, Buffalo Bills Review.

This is a new podcast that my brother in law Josh, a high school friend Dave, and myself will be doing weekly following every Bills game. We’ll cover the game, any pertinent Bills news and the upcoming game. We even have a hotline, so fans can call in and share their 2 cents! (716) 989-4180. Nifty.

So stop by and check it out. Our first show (unofficial, since it’s preseason) πŸ™‚ is now posted. You can also find us at the iTunes music store. For that direct link, click here.

It’s actually kind of informative and entertaining all at once.

And I am having a blast putting it together. πŸ™‚

We hit the road tomorrow, so blogging will become more scarce in the next couple weeks, as I had predicted earlier. Stay tuned, and check out BuffaloBillsReview.com.

Tell your friends. It’s gonna be fun. πŸ™‚

Bills 27 – Packers 7

Yes, it was a preseason match, so the victory must be taken with a grain of salt. Yes Brett Favre did look completely invincible against a very tough Buffalo first-string defense. Yes, McGahee was not his full-steam-ahead self.

But a win’s a win. πŸ™‚

We attended the pre-season demolishing of the Green Bay Packers at “The Ralph” (as the stadium has been affectionately dubbed) in Orchard Park, NY this past Saturday. It was noteable for a few reasons. First, it was our first chance to catch a game from our VERY OWN season ticket seats! We split the games this year with our bro-in-law, and so will be in attendance for 5 of 10 games! Nice!!! And, second, being Kids’ Day, it was a chance to bring our two boys and our 7 year old nephew to the game at a reasonable price!

When we arrived, the skies were overcast, so we came prepared with trash bags turned rain coats. It turned out we did not need them, but you can never be too prepared… πŸ™‚

We picked up the extra tickets for the boys at the ticket office and hoped we could find 5 seats in a row so we didn’t have to sit in different locations. Upon arriving at our season ticket location, we found a row of exactly 5 seats where our two are! So, we sat down and enjoyed the game! I kept watching people to see if we were in their seats… but no one came along.

Until about half way through the first quarter. πŸ™‚

We discovered we were in Section 240 instead of 241! πŸ™‚ We lost our seats, and became nomadic football fans, hoping to score another row of empty seats. (And, surprisingly for a pre-season game, those were sorta hard to come by!) We headed to our real seats to at least meet our “neighbors”… and found …

FIVE SEATS IN A ROW! πŸ™‚

So, we got to enjoy the game with the boys who took everything in with great excitement. We saw great runs and throws from our new QB, JP Losman. He ran for a touchdown. We saw a couple more runs for touchdowns. There was a 54 yd field goal. Some great returns of punts and kicks. Just a great game to see in person!

We even witnessed one of the best quarter backs to ever play football. He only played 5 or 6 downs… but he was great. Farve drove the team fairly easily against our great defense, and even when they HAD him, he got away somehow and tossed a perfect pass to a covered running back in the endzone. Amazing. And the play came right toward our corner of the stadium, so we had a great view. πŸ™‚

Our next game (that we’ll attend) is Sun Sept 25 against Atlanta. That will be fun to see Michael Vick in person too. And that game will count. So it will be even more fun to see the Bills trounce another weak opponent! πŸ™‚

The next game on the Bills schedule is Friday in Chicago. Preseason, yes… but hey… it’s still…

BILLS FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A New & Improved NFL?

This year, the NFL is a little messed up. There are tons of teams that are really not good, who stand a great chance of making the playoffs! AND, to top that, perhaps there will be a team (or two?) who DOES NOT make the playoffs at 10-6… (INCLUDING our beloved Bills.)

I was reading an article that made me think… isn’t there a better way? And, I think I have come up with one!

(Hopefully someone from the NFL reads my blog…) πŸ™‚

WHAT IF…

We keep our AFC and NFC conferences for season play, rivalries, etc, etc… BUT, for the playoffs, it’s more like the NCAA tourney. There are brackets, and teams are selected by their overall record. This year, 10 of the top 14 teams (records) are from ONE conference… the AFC. SO, in my scenario, the BETTER teams would be in the playoffs, because conference does not matter.

What I propose is to take the top 14 teams, giving the top 2 a one-week bye, and home-field advantage in their bracket throughout the playoffs. Then, the others are spread out to play according to their season record, not by conference.

Here’s what it might look like this year… (if we take the current top 14 teams, in order of alphabet if tie-breakers are unknown)

NFL Top 14

1. Pittsburgh (14-1)

2. New England (13-2)

3. Philadelphia (13-2)

4. Indianapolis (12-3)

5. Atlanta (11-4)

6. San Diego (11-4)

7. NY Jets (10-5)

8. Buffalo (9-6)

9. Green Bay (9-6)

10. Denver (9-6)

11. Baltimore (8-7)

12. Jacksonville (8-7)

13. Minnesota (8-7)

14. Seattle (8-7)

That scenario has some great games in it that would never (can’t) happen in the current playoff structure… allows for the best “final four” … especially if seeded right. Seems like a winner to me. Would be fun to see the Bills with the 8th best record in the league get a home game against Green Bay in the first round. And the Superbowl would be (hopefully) the best two teams. (If I wasn’t such a homer, it would be Pitt/NE, the 1/2 teams in the SB)…

Wouldn’t that be better?

We Love Our Bills!

If you are a Buffalo Bills fan, you have to be excited! We haven’t had a winning team since 1998, but this year we are already 8-6… with a fairly good shot at 10-6! Wow!

Unfortunately, they could still very well miss the playoffs!

There are five teams fighting for the last 2 playoff spots. 4 division winners get a spot, and 2 teams get into the playoffs as a “wild card”. New England has clinched our division, and Pittsburgh theirs. Indianapolis and San Diego have clinched theirs as well. Then you have the Jets (10-4), Ravens (8-6), Jaguars (8-6), Broncos (8-6) & the Bills (8-6). Unfortuately, we lost to all of those teams, and the only team we could end up tied with, but ahead by virtue of a tie-breaker would be the Jets. So we need to win both of our last two games, and they would need to LOSE both. Even then, at least two of the other teams would have to lose at least one game.

SO, it’s certainly not certain… but it’s been fun anyway! They have won 5 in a row, and 7 of their last 8. (The one loss was in New England.) They have scored over 33 points in the 5 wins. And a bunch of points have come from “trick” plays and special teams plays.

They’re just FUN! πŸ™‚

So… watch out NFL… here come the Bills!
