I used that title back on the day when I deleted all my email (years of email) and then totaled our van within about an hours time. You can read all about that day here: http://basicmusic.blogspot.com/2003/10/what-can-ya-do.html
Lemme tell ya about today’s What Can Ya Do day… π
It actually started on Monday, when I got an email from my coffee house friend in town saying he was closing down the coffee shop. I found out later that day that he had already closed it down!! It was open Sunday, then with no notice, permanently closed on Monday! Whoa! Sad… but crazy part for me there was that The Phoenix Cafe was to provide coffee and beverages for the August Concert Series to start in just a few days (tonight, actually…)
So, I began scrambling to find a replacement for that on Tuesday… asking around… found out today that no one could do that, so we would be going beverageless tonight.
Also, found out that there were severe weather storm alerts today, the musician for tonight called and said his sinus infection was giving him a HUGE pounding headache, and he may not be able to go tonight. Then a string of businesses who had said they may be able to help financially sponsor the event decided today that they could not. Then some of the other vendors lined up to sell food at the concert tonight said they could not do it. And another said it would be hard, but they’d try to make it.
And I began to wonder… what can ya do? π
Earlier, I had also found out that the sound system I thought I had – was not available… along with the sound guys. They are in Mexico. π
What can ya do?
Sometimes life gets soooo crazy… what else can you say? So I conferred with a couple folks about all this and we decided (as the rain was pouring down…) π to cancel the concert for tonight.
That was not an easy decision. I pray for way-beyond-me Kingdom-things to happen at these events, and believe that God does those. And I put tons and tons of work and life into these, planning for months and months… and to not do it… well, that’s sad for me.
But, what can ya do? π
I got to that point today and thought… I guess we should just cancel it. π
So we did. Crazy. But we did.
I will be praying this week, and seeing if I can figure out what God was doing with this day.
We did get to hang out with two folks from Crosswinds that we never really hang out with… that was interesting and cool. Perhaps that was it? How can ya know.
What can ya do?
I just spent some time cleaning up the blog page… and well, blogging. π
What can ya do is not an easy attitude to really live by, but it sure helps when everything falls apart all in a couple days. π It’s harder to transfer to things that seem bigger than a concert series… like losing a job or even losing a loved one… but ultimately it’s the same idea.
Life is out of our control. That doesn’t mean we don’t jump into it and have fun and plan and work and make things happen… but when things don’t go as we plan… it’s time to say…
“What can ya do?”
