Praise Him

Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s)

We sang a song this past week at camp (read the footnote below…) that I have sung before, many times… but I was reminded of the depth of coolness of one of the lines. We sang, “With every breath I’m praising You.”

Actually, many times I have sung that and felt a twinge of guilt as I do not praise Him with my every breath. With many I am doing quite the opposite, speaking harsh words to my wife and children, speaking bitter words about those who have wronged me, speaking words that just needn’t be spoken.

But the depth of the statement revealed to me how stuck I am on myself still.

I keep thinking that it’s about me, what I do, who I am, even what I don’t do. But it’s really not. It’s really all who God has made me to be. The depth of that statement comes in the wonder of my creation… not my own acts of praising.

Just the very fact that I exist is praise to Him. The wonder of me (not anything that I can stake a claim on… just the creation of the Creator) is a testament to His greatness.

With every breath, I’m praising Him.

That said, I will continue to point every bit of life God has given me toward Him and tell everyone along the way that Jesus has given me life beyond what I could imagine. And in that way, I will also attempt to actively praise him with every breath.

But I rest in the fact that even if I don’t try – with every breath I am praising Him.

And that’s awesome.

FOOTNOTE: Have you noticed a slight decline in blog entries here? 🙂 We have been super busy this summer, concluding? last week with an intense week of camp in Indiana, and August does not seem like it will slow down, but I really want to read more (I did for an hour this morning) and write more (just did right here…) so check back almost daily here for more bloggalicious fun!
