Long story, but… we are considering opening a retail store here on Main St – Palmyra, NY – to sell Apple Computers and related products. There is no such business in the area (there are some apple service folks who will sell you a computer if you ask them… but no real “store”) There are lots of reasons to do it, and several I can think of not to do it… so… if you’ll indulge me, this seemed as good a forum as any to list the various pros and cons… 🙂

- There are not any similar stores in the area – we would be unique
- Apple computer ROCKS, and everyone should own one
- I know and love apple computers, and could help others do the same
- I just love computers… always have… always will
- Apple prices are rock-solid, helping me, the little guy to compete with larger companies price-wise
- My brother-in-law would be my contact (at least eventually) for the distributor we’d work with
- Rent in Palmyra for a Main St location is relatively cheap (and we found a nice space to rent…)
- If it works, this would generate enough income to allow us to do basic (music) completely free of charge!
- IF this works, for real… we would be in a completely different world of finances…
- I have a partner willing to jump in this with me… his name is Tim. Tim is cool.
- Apple has done a good job marketing the iPod and iTunes digital music stuff… so we can jump in and ride that wave…
- A computer store would be an easy link to the established and growing website design business I am currently doing…
- I already have a number of regular customers lined up! 🙂
- We would get cheaper Apple stuff… 🙂

- We already have some pretty big debt we are working on, this would create more.
- Along that line, not sure if we can get the credit we need to start up the business!
- It would certainly require us to be around more than we have been required to in the past (limiting travel availability for basic)
- Right now I work T-Su… the store would be open M-Sa… that does not leave room for time off – could create a problem.
- Apple Resellers are not authorized to sell via the internet… a decent part of our plan for income.
- Both my partner and I have at least one other full-time occupational focus (I have two… one would be integrated into the computer store bidness…)
- I am not yet certain that this idea is something God is directing… still listening re: that…
- All the set up time is a big, big strain on me and my family (but could be rewarding… in the end…)
