The week has gotten away from me. The urgent has taken over. A few lingering projects continue to puzzle me. A new discovery has enthralled me. But I did manage in the busyness to catch the new continuing adventures of the K.I.T.T. and the Knight Rider.
Overall, I did like it. Jen had to leave before the first scene was over. Too scary. Too dark. Too intense. And on the whole, I’d say KR2 was a bit more edgy that KR1. But, isn’t that pretty descriptive of all of TV these days?
I think I need to watch another episode to better formulate what I think about the show, but I must say, I’m looking forward to seeing another.
The writers did a pretty good job recapturing the banter between K.I.T.T. and his human counterparts. There are some similar characters between KR2 and KR1. (Not the same people, only Michael Knight makes an appearance from the old show.) There’s the genius girl, who may end up being this version’s “Bonnie”. There’s the driver whose name just happens to be Mike. Perhaps you could paint the designer of both K.I.T.T. cars as the Devin character (or a combo of him and the FBI girl…) But it’s a new twist on “The Foundation” and should be interesting to watch unfold.
I did like the way the show was tied into the previous series. Some personal details about the main character tie very nicely back to KR1.
I’m not a movie or tv show critic, so I’ll just leave it at this: Overall, I really did like it. That’s saying something, as I am a fan of the original. π Perhaps they have won a new fan?
Definitely going to TiVo another episode π
Wow…we are totally in disagreement about “KR2.” While I do remember the original being the first show on which I heard the word “hell” used as expletive, it was certainly a family show by today’s standards. If they were going to keep KR2 as cheesy as KR1 (as they certainly did), I was really hoping the new installment would be more Y7-like rather than PG-13-like (because you know tons of adolescent males were watching, just like us in the 80’s)…either that or move to an even later time-slot and make the show more believe-able. KR1 was already pretty devoid of morality or virtue…couldn’t they have kept just a little? Do we in the target demographic (presumably males, 18-34) appreciate being stereotyped as only appreciating sex (hetero and lesbian apparently), violence, and adrenaline junky-ism? This show would have much more appropriately debuted on Spike. And surprisingly, for a show about a vehicle with advanced AI, it wasn’t even the technological side that was so dubious, it was the character interaction/writing (not to mention delivery) that I found relatively horrendous. Maybe my problem is that I’m nearly chronologically out of the target demographic…maybe I’ve been been emotionally gone for a while.
Half-a-thumb up for the CGI and a cameo by The Hoff. A thumb-and-a-half down for the rest.

Dude. What are you talking about? π What do you mean we’re in disagreement? I re-read what I wrote… do you just mean the part about “recapturing the banter between K.I.T.T. and his human counterparts”?
When I posted this I thought, “I didn’t do a very thorough job writing out all that I thought… but, it’ll do.” It was kind of a summary, and overall I liked it.
I did mention it was more “edgy” than KR1. I left out the specifics. Actually, if I remember right, the sexual content was only in the introduction of the show? It was over the top, I thought, but then was glad it was minimal. Was the language really PG-13? I’m sad that I didn’t notice that if it was. I thought it was better than most current TV I have seen (which admittedly isn’t much) π
And, I guess the writing/acting is really a matter of opinion. I enjoyed it. (But I do admit, I am a very bad critic. I do end up liking most things I take the time to watch.) π
I doubt that I will, but maybe sometime this weekend I will re-write the above review with my full thoughts on the cool parts of the new show, the negatives, and more on why I am going to watch another episode.
But, just wanted to clarify. I didn’t like any of those parts you didn’t like either. Just thought those were minimal, and overall was a decent stab at a sequel/continuation of the Knight Rider π
The jury is still out on whether you’ll get another episode.
There still hasn’t been an order for a series to follow up Sunday’s made-for-TV movie. But it did do fairly well in the ratings.
“Knight” rides for NBC, but FOX wins week.
