Bowman Cup 2007

Speaking of hockey… we spent a good chunk of yesterday traveling to the HSBC Arena in Buffalo. No, we didn’t get to take in a Sabres playoff game… we watched Rochester high-school all-stars take on their counterparts from Buffalo, both juniors and seniors. FOR FREE! Free admission, Free parking. We sat about 5 rows up, down near one of the goals… it was great! All the kids loved it, including cousin Dylan who came along with Grandma, and met us there.

It was tons of fun, and we’re already looking forward to next year! πŸ™‚

I couldn’t find any news articles about it, but here’s one from the Buffalo News, from before the event.

I Love This Time Of Year!

NHL Playoffs
I have been watching SO MUCH HOCKEY since last Wednesday when the playoffs got off to a GREAT start with a 4OT game out in Vancouver! (Unfortunately, the 4th OT was pre-empted for an infomercial… that was not good…) But it’s great! There are 3 or 4 hockey games per day!!! And it’s GREAT hockey. Everyone just plays much harder. Everyone. (Except the Sabres for that first 15 minutes on Saturday… but hopefully they learned their lesson!)

I’ve been watching the Vancouver series, another great game last night. The Canucks won in OT. The only two Canadian teams this year are Vancouver and Ottawa. As a Sabres fan, and not a fan of goon hockey, I can’t really root for Ottawa, but you have to root for at least ONE team from Canada to reach the second round!!

It will be interesting, if the Sabres advance past round one as they are expected to, the Rangers are also currently leading their series against Atlanta, so they might be the next opponent for the No. 1 seed Sabres. And, likely, the New Jersey Devils might be the other team to make the Eastern Conference Finals, so it’s plausible that the Sabres could play three opponents all from the same area to get to the Stanley Cup finals.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. πŸ™‚

Sabres play game three tonight, and then game two of the double-header on Versus is Nashville at San Jose!

Mr. Deity

Mr. Deity
I found this show as a recommended video podcast on iTunes, and thought the description was interesting enough to check out. (And it wasn’t labeled “Explicit”, which you have to watch for on iTunes video podcasts…) I downloaded one show, and then decided to get them all! They’re short little sketches taking a pretty funny (often incorrect, but humorous) look at God and the things he does. πŸ™‚ The cast is Mr. Deity, Jesus, Larry (I think he’s playing the role of Holy Spirit…) and Lucy. (Lucifer is a woman.) If you’re offended by such things, don’t watch. But if you’re not, we think it’s pretty funny.

(I thought the Super Bowl press conference one was pretty funny…) πŸ™‚

Mondays

You know, this morning I realized that I actually kinda like Mondays. πŸ™‚ It’s a new beginning, there’s a whole week of fun ahead… not sure exactly why, but I like the fresh start I think. I get back on my routine. It’s all good.

Maybe I just had a good weekend? πŸ™‚

No, I already know I’m different, so this is par for the course. I do like what I get to do during the “work week”, so it does make sense that I enjoy getting back at it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Friday evenings, too… when it’s time to take a break for the weekend. (Unless I have stuff that is not done yet!!)

But I kinda like Mondays.

Hope you have a good one, too. πŸ™‚

Sabres Sobered

NY goalie, Rick DiPietro Saves The Day for the IslandersThe Sabres actually lost last night! The series is now tied at 1-1. They did not match the intensity of the Islanders for the first 15 minutes of the game, and so were down 2-0. They finally scored late in the first, and then the NYI goalie made some fantastic saves to keep the score 2-1 till mid-way through the 3rd period. A questionable call led to a NY power play (the only time they managed to get any scoring chances for the final two periods, for the most part) and they cashed in. They held on, Sabres lose the game.

So, perhaps this loss will remind them that they aren’t invincible, and we’ll win the rest of the games from here on out?

That’s what we’re hoping for!

The Definition of Insanity

Famous Quote - Definition of InsanityTwice now in the past 24 hours I have heard someone reiterate the famous quote, “The definition of insanity is to do something the same way and expect different results.” (Or something to that effect.) The best part about the quote is that I have heard it attributed to SO many different people! The past two times, it was attributed to Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein.

Probably the funniest thing is that I think I first heard the quote attributed to that learned scholar, John Larroquette. πŸ™‚ I’m pretty sure my brother in law mentioned him in a sermon one time, and gave him credit for that quote. Too funny.

So, not sure who said it, but whoever did, I think everyone agrees with it, because it has to be the MOST quoted phrase perhaps of all time!

Foggy

Today is a bit of a fog. I know the Sabres won last night… that much I can remember. I also know that we will be getting a new window and a new front door (the outside one) installed relatively soon. It will look nice, but mainly it should save us some bucks in the winters. And the summers? I want to check into grants for EneryStar home improvements… that may be helpful.

But mostly, today is a fog. I have this nasty head thing that set in throughout the afternoon yesterday. Stuffy (and leaky) sinuses, a bad cough (when I cough) and just overall grogginess. Ugh. It’s not very fun.

I don’t know if any of this made sense, but…

Sabres are up 1-0 over the Islanders! (I do feel a sweep coming…)

What I’ve Been Working On

Here are a few sites I have been working on lately. Some are new, some are just updates, and some are my own endeavors.

Well.. and this one. πŸ™‚

I Guess I’m Emergent?

Not too sure about the results here, but saw this on Chris’ blog and thought I’d take a crack at it. Last time I was Seventh Day Adventist, which was awesome. πŸ™‚

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.
