You may have heard (I forget if I might have said here on this blog) that the Sabres lost game 4 in NY and are now tied with NY at 2 games a piece. But perhaps it might have been different had the video review guys been a bit braver, and made the call that every human eye could see… it was definitely a goal. The goal was not allowed on the technicality that there was no video shot of “white” behind the puck (meaning it completely crossed the line).
Well, thanks to YouTube (so, not 100% credible, I suppose) I found a video that shows the shot we saw on TV where “spacially” you can tell that the puck is over the line, even though covered by the goalie’s pad. And then, a view I had not yet seen… a shot from the front. It appears to be taken by a still camera. The puck is visible on its side against the goalie’s pad. That would explain why we couldn’t see it…
And it would make it clearly a goal.
Oh well. 🙂
Game 5 is tomorrow night! Go Sabres!
Here’s the photo/video evidence.

I know this will cause me to lose some respect, but I am actually a Rangers fan.
Following the letter of the law [visible white ice between the puck and the line] this call was correct. But when the puck is obscured by the pad which shows the visible white ice, you would think it would mean a goal.
So incorrect call, but I’ll take what I can get. And since this was the first video review in the playoffs that went againt the Sabres, I’m not too sympathetic.
I’m thinking this series goes seven. If the Rangers pull it off, then this wrong call will be the one that did the Sabres in.
You’re right… “letter of the law” was what I was referring to as a technicality. Because every thinking person could see that it was a goal. But, due to lack of camera angles, they went with the “safe” call.
Grrr. 🙂
I think it’s been a great series, but my take on it is this…
(1) Sabres are succumbing to the pressure of being the favorite to win it all, and will fold in six games, losing to a Ranger team that “has nothing to lose”, and is playing with more passion/determination.
(2) The Rangers wins have been very close games, one that should have been even closer (Game 4) and the Sabres figured out what it will take in the last half of period 3 Game 4, and will put away the pesky Rangers and prepare for a bloody battle against their hated division rival, the Ottawa Senators.
I would like to see option 2… but it could certainly also be option 1.
I actually don’t see the series going seven games, but we shall see…
