Perhaps it was not clear what I am talking about, with what is sin, and what do we do with it… because I completely agree with the responses below and other ones I have heard saying basically, "It’s the wrong question… don’t ask what is sin, do what is good, and sin will have no room in your life." I completely agree.
Now, my question is… once someone has let sin in the door… what do you do with THAT? Since, by our very nature, we are all sinners… and all prone to sinful thoughts and acts and words… even though we are saved by grace, even though when we live our lives in daily connection with Jesus… we still get caught up in sin… what do we do then?
Do we have to confess every single sinful act or thought… or risk sliding deeper into sin? Do we walk in fear that we might stumble or sin? Do we hammer on people who are stuck in a sinful thought pattern – leading them down a road that might end in sinful actions – hoping that by that correction we might save their souls from hell?
Or, do we accept God’s grace and understand our broknenness and fallenness and push ahead toward the prize for which Christ Jesus called us heavenward…. and not languish over each and every sin… to the point of despair because of our enormous guilt? Do we mete out God’s grace in the form of loving, sympathetic, compassionate, understanding helpfulness to our brothers and sisters who are struggling with trusting God – and living or thinking sinfully?
Which is it? What do we DO with sin?
