Arnold Speaks

A friend sent me a JibJab video today, and one of the "related video" links was an animated Arnold Schwarzenegger... so I clicked, and found there is a whole site of videos (allegedly) posted by Arnold himself. :-) From what I saw, pretty funny stuff. Enjoy.

Nacho Libre

So, I am not a fan of silly movies generally, but our friends talked enough about the movie Nacho Libre (and how much they loved it) that I eventually decided to watch it. Jen even did... mostly. :-) We watched it with them again this past weekend (at least, highlights of it) and it's just hilarious. Silly. But hilarious. :-)

Here's a few good clips I found on YouTube :-)

¿Unos Mates?

Our friend, Laura, (who is from Argentina) sent me a link this morning to a series of videos from NBC's TODAY show that were done from Buenos Aires. There were a lot of videos there, but the link/video I noticed was the one above about the most common Argentine beverage, yerba mate.

Laura has gotten me hooked on this, and I drink it most days. (It can be sweetened a bit more than apparently it was in the video...) :-) Ian kind of likes it, and perhaps another kid or two will... but Jen is definitely not a fan. :-)

Anyway, just thought I would share this video here...

While I am tomando unos mates. :-)

Not A Bad Deal, Eh?

Sabres fans are still sad to see Soupy go west to San Jose, but the guy we got in return had a decent start... TWO GOALS and an ASSIST in his first game! (He score the first two goals!) Ha!

Trade Deadlines and Free Agency

It's that time of year again, in fact this year it's one week of craziness in my two favorite sports.

On the one hand, the NHL has set tomorrow at 3pm as the deadline to deal players. A couple trades have already occurred, more will come tomorrow. The NHL is pretty good at keeping things fresh, to be sure. People get caught up in the frenzy of the deadline as Sabres' GM Darcy Regier says above.

The main name on the board for the Sabres is all-star defenseman Brian Campbell. (Note: had my sister have been a boy, that would have been her name!) Campbell is fantastic, and could be a foundational piece for the Sabres for years to come, but for some reason, they have not come to terms on an extension. He's set to be a free agent come July 1st of this year, so the Sabres are certainly considering a trade in order to get something out of losing him (if he were to choose to leave).

On Friday, we have the other side of things. Free agency begins Friday Feb 29th for the NFL. That means players whose contracts have expired can shop around to the highest bidder. Last season the Bills knew exactly who they wanted, and they got them within half a day of the free agency period starting gun! Will that happen again? Not sure. We had some big name guys who were set to leave last year, not so much this year. And there aren't a lot of big name players on the market who have generated the press you might expect leading up to such a deadline.

One deadline ends with a frenzy, the other begins with a frenzy. And all in one week!

So, stay tuned, I'll probably have a report here, and definitely on my Buffalo Bills site.

Mr. Deity - "An Helpmeet"

Not really sure why, but this week's episode of Mr. Deity made me laugh. So, here I shall share. :-) This show can be a bit "sketchy" at times, but I happily approve of this one. Funny stuff :-)

(By the way, if you haven't seen this show yet, visit their site for more info on who these folks are.)

Powerful Thoughts?

I don't know if this is for real, but I got it from a friend on Facebook and thought it might be possible? :-) Does mind over matter include over other matter? :-) Also, can't you affect how a plant grows by how you talk to it?

The rest of the experiment (says the video) is at www.themanifeststation.com/intention

(I don't think I'm on the same page as the folks at that site... but the video was interesting anyway...) :-)

Indiana Jones (Yeah, The REAL One!)

OK, I found out that I'm behind the times here. Hadn't heard that Harrison Ford was making another Indiana Jones movie. But indeed it is true. In theaters May 22. Ha! Should be pretty good!

(Gonna mess up that box set I have though....) :-)

Knight Rider - Again?

I mentioned in a previous post that I am a fan of the 80s TV show, Knight Rider. I remember as a young lad having a cool little black t-shirt featuring K.I.T.T. flying through the air. Even had a little Hot Wheels K.I.T.T. of my own. Who didn't?

Well, NBC has a Knight Rider sequel scheduled to air later this month. I'm not overly optimistic, based on recent "remakes" (Dukes of Hazzard???) but we'll see. I'm not a fan of current TV, to be sure. Perhaps this one will be different?

(Yes, I am forever the optimist...)

Speaking of re-makes. I did watch a free episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles via iTunes a couple weeks ago. Actually... it was the first current TV show in recent memory that I have watched and kinda liked. (Well, besides Monk. Jen & I do really like that one.) I'm not sure I'll pay to watch it. I might try and TiVo an episode or two. We'll see. Surprising that I like a show made by Fox. Haven't so far.

In other recently watched recommendations, I also watched the Rocky Balboa movie and liked it. How can you not like Rocky? (That was sort of a remake as well, I suppose!) And Jen & I watched We Are Marshall together. Both thought it was a very good movie. Just ... sad, though. No way around the sadness of that story. Kinda sad and... inspiring? But... sad.

Stuff to stay away from? I decided to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey since I knew it was a classic and I think Netflix recommended it based on my Sci-Fi preferences. Well... I gave it two stars. It was very, very weird. The reason I gave it two was that it was certainly ... creative? Yikes. Very strange movie. :-) I also got a free episode of a TV show called Kyle XY. I knew it was sci-fi themed, but forgot that anything from the ABC Family network is too... "drama" for me. Do not recommend.

Oh yeah. I also got to see a bit of what is apparently a classic - Krull. :-) Never heard of it, but my friend John was laughing at me for having watched it I think. :-) He described it as a cheesy Saturday afternoon, nothing better to show on TV kind of movie.

I'd recommend staying far away from that one as well.

And there you have, this week - or two - in entertainment from GregsHead! :-)

Tecmo Superbowl

Pretty sure I have mentioned here that I am a fan of old video games, and the king of all of those games - at least in the sports genre - is Tecmo Superbowl for the Nintendo NES.

A friend sent me a link to a video today (first one below) and I found the "response" to the first video (second one below). Both are pretty funny (especially if you are a big TSB fan like me...) And, I'm posting them here for my boys to watch. :-)

Enjoy!

Ryan Miller Speaks Chinese?

I heard about this a while ago... just saw it today on the Sabres website. Ryan Miller trash talking... in Chinese. :-)

I heard an interview where the reporters asked him to say it again. It was funny. He said he just said it over and over about 50 times and just can't forget it now. So he knows one phrase in Chinese. Pretty funny commercial. :-)

Enjoy.

Cinderella

A friend of ours can't stop talking about this song, and I have to agree with her. As with most all of his songs, Steven Curtis Chapman is simply a great word craftsman. We listened to it New Year's Eve and it had Jen crying while holding Kirstie. (Which I think confused Kirstie, cause you're not supposed to cry if you're happy she said...) :-)

I'm probably not supposed to post these here (and if Steven asks, I'll take them down...) But for now, just thought I'd share in case you haven't heard the song. The title below will link to the song at iTunes, so you can buy the album or the song alone if you'd like. It's really a great song, and so amazing how hearing of or seeing the love of a child for their parent (and vice versa) does melt the heart of a mommy or daddy. It does for me at least. Just about every time. :-)

Cinderella
Steven Curtis Chapman

Verse 1:
She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders
It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Verse 2:
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of her dress
She says, "Dad the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She will be gone

Verse 3:
But she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says, "Dad the wedding's still six months away but I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Fusion from VMWare

I found this article yesterday, (which includes the video above) about an upcoming release of another virtualization option for the Mac. This software will allow you to run Windows apps as separate windows on your Mac, with icons in the dock... just like they were native Mac apps! Sweet! I think you still need to buy/install Windows, but sounds like the UI is much better.

(Articles on yesterday's Apple announcements are forthcoming. Some have been posted at GregsApples.com, but I am currently writing a newsletter, and will detail my hands-on experience with the new iMac here at GregsHead.net later today. Stay tuned...)

Virtual Reality... Reality?

Wii Fit
A friend sent me this link the other day... it's to a new/different version of Nintendo's Wii. Check out the demo video on that page. Incredible. Virtual reality may not be a (perfect) reality, but it's getting close. There is technology coming (or maybe already in use) that will allow a screen to also be a camera. (Like Star Trek!) where one pixel is a screen pixel and one is a camera! Side by side! I can see how that will allow virtual reality to be much more real. Interacting with a virtual world with no extra devices. It's certainly coming...

Check out the video.

Which God Did This?

I am working on a website for a video that some friends of mine had a big part in making. The video is being produced by a former member of the Mormon church who has since discovered evidence upon evidence that what the Mormons teach just does not hold up. The video is very thorough, and very condemning. I live in the town where Mormonism began, and I didn't know a lot of the stuff presented there.

The purpose of the video is to give current members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS, Mormons) the chance to review all of the available information, and, to hopefully get away from a false religion. There is a plea at the end of the video to the leaders of the Mormon church to lead their followers into truth. As I said, it's all very convincing.

Part of me just cringes when we try to make someone else think like we do. The other part completely agrees with what was said in the video, and I do wonder how anyone could "be a Mormon" after thinking through the info presented there.

Then, today, I came across a video on YouTube of an interview with radio personality, Glenn Beck. I was aware that Glenn was a Mormon, and never really thought too much about it. His show is certainly entertaining, and I enjoy listening to it when I can. I also knew he had at some point made big changes in his personal life. I was not aware they were so connected to his conversion to Mormonism, however.

So, there's a part of the video where he describes how the Mormon church had changed his life, and almost immediately following his baptism, things began to miraculously fall into place for him. He attributes it to God's hand in his life. Funny... when that happens to me... so do I! But wait... if Mormonism is false, inaccurate, and begun by a shady character named Joseph Smith ... Glenn & I can't be doing life with the same God, can we? The things that he thinks God is arranging for him... has to just be demonic, right???

I think I may have thought that a few years ago. I don't know. I continue to learn that God loves everyone. Everyone. God arranges for good things to happen, life-changing things to happen, for Christians, Mormons, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Buddhists, and even Democrats. (That was for you, Mom) ;-) It IS the same God... He is THE ONLY ONE.

So, while Glenn may be confused (as I believe he is) on the historical side of things, and on who God is and how he operates, I believe that it was God - the same one I know - who arranged events in his life to get him to where he is now. Yes, even "though" he is a Mormon.

I don't think God waits for us to "get things right" before he leads, guides, blesses, and just actively loves us. He just does. God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save it. That's how much he loves everyone... no matter what we are trapped in.

When I look at it, I'm not sure we have that right. We are better at loving either after a change has been made, or, in order to make a change.

So, anyway... that's my thoughts for the day. Enjoy the video. Do post your thoughts if you are so inclined.
